Gangtok, May 25 (IPR): A meeting to review the implementation progress of Jal Shakti Abhiyan – Catch the Rain programme was held at the mini-conference hall of the District Administrative Centre, Gangtok, on 24th May, 2023.
The meeting had the participation of Mr. Rahul Malik (IPS), Deputy Director Ministry of Home Affairs (GoI) cum Central Government team leader, Mr. R. K. Mohanty, Senior Scientist cum Technical Officer (GoI), Mr. Rohan Ramesh Agawane, ADC Gangtok, Mrs. Radha Pradhan, ADC Development, Mr.G. L. Meena, Assistant Collector Gangtok, and concerned Officers from Agriculture, Rural Development Department and Smart City Department, Government of Sikkim.
The central government team, led by Mr. Rahul Malik, assessed the efforts made in geo-tagging water bodies, ensuring source sustainability for drinking water, fund utilization, and receiving suggestions from implementing agencies and stakeholders.
The district administration and concerned departments presented an overview of the schemes followed by Mr. Rahul Malik providing valuable insights and recommendations for better water conservation and optimal water usage in Gangtok district.
The concerned Officers from the Agriculture, Rural Development and Panchayati Raj (RDD), and Smart City departments delivered presentations to the central government team, which provided an overview of various schemes related to water conservation and rainwater harvesting in Gangtok district.
Accordingly, the central government team, led by M. Rahul Malik, will further inspect the Jal Shakti Kendra, Amrit Sarovar, and the works carried out under the Jal Jeevan Mission, Jal Shakti Abhiyan, and other related schemes. The inspection being carried out aims to assess the progress and effectiveness of these initiatives.
Earlier, Mr. Rahul Malik briefed the district administration about the purpose of their visit, and the challenges faced in water conservation, and suggested better ways to promote water conservation and optimal use of water resources.
